Patrick holds a Ph.D. in Engineering Economic Systems from Stanford University and is Commercial Engineer from KULeuven.
He started his career at the Belgian Economic Planning Office and DRI Europe, in each case working with and contributing to the development of large economic models. In 1992, he moved to McKinsey, where he served clients in a wide range of industries on strategy, organization and operational efficiency.
He moved to AG in 1992, where he was responsible for the organization department Non-life and in a later stage for the motor business. He joined the management team of Fortis Corporate Insurance (FCI) in 1998, taking up different responsibilities to become CEO in 2003.
He managed FCI through the financial crisis and the transition towards Amlin and then joined QBE in 2011 as MD European Operations.
Throughout his career, Patrick has kept a strong interest in analytics, which led him also to teach quantitative methods and statistics in the MBA program at the University of Antwerp.
Patrick is married to Magda, and father of 4 children.
Together they enjoy traveling, fine wines and good food, modern art and fashion.
